St. Francis of Assisi Shrine

Just inside the entrance to the Shrine grounds is his statue encased in a rustic shelter.  Many pilgrims stop for a short visit and say his Peace Prayer.
His frequent visits, many messages, as well as his blessing for Mary Ann and all present were always appreciated.  It was on October 4, 1974 that he requested that we pray and live his "Peace Prayer."  A year later she saw him as he received the stigmata of Our Lord.  His mission then, "Francis, Save the Church."  Mary Ann's mission was, "Sister, rebuild the Church."
Both were stigmatists, St. Francis had all five wounds of Our Lord visible, Mary Ann though suffering all five wounds had only those of the thorns visible in Lent of 1951 and 1952.  While visiting the Holy Lands, St. Francis was inspired to erect the first outdoor Nativity Scene for Midnight Mass, Dec 24/25 in Greccio, Italy, 1223.  The idea since has spread world-wide.
